With it’s proximity to the Wicklow Way, Aughrim boasts a number of picturesque walking trails. These range from an easy woodland stroll to more challenging ascents for the seasoned hiker.

Wicklow Way: Iron Bridge to Tinahely

Get to know this 21.1-km point-to-point trail near Aughrim, County Wicklow. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 6 min to complete. This is a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Macreddin and Cushbawn Mountain Circular (Sean Linehan Walk)

Sean Linehan Walk

The Sean Linehan Walk is a nature walk following the meandering flow of the Macreddin River. There are a number of routes to choose from on the walk and the longest route is approximately 6 km.

The start of the walk is located at the “Old Bridge” at Tinnakilly, just past the local national school on the Rathdrum Road. The walk was created by the national woodland service “Coillte” in 2004 as a recreational amenity for the area.

It is dedicated to the memory of Sean Linehan, a former member of the Garda Siochana who was stationed in Aughrim for 26 years, and who was an inspirational member of the Aughrim Tidy Towns Committee. This trail is great for birding, fishing, and hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through September. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

Macreddin Village to Mongnacool Upper

Discover this 24.1-km out-and-back trail near Aughrim, County Wicklow. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 7 h 20 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, hiking, and mountain biking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are April through September. Dogs are welcome and may be off-leash in some areas.

Croghan Kinsella

The three peaked mountain that overlooks Aughrim from a few kilometers away. Head out on this 8.2-km out-and-back trail near Coolgreany, County Wexford. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 33 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Jim’s Way

Jim’s Way is a one mile loop, which starts at the Square in Aughrim Village, and passes an impressive cross, erected to mark the Year of the Family and the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland. The view of Aughrim from the cross is spectacular and a must see.
